What I will say is . . . It is the future, you can see it. IF and I say IF open source apps become equal to commercial apps eg like gimp is pretty much on photoshop . . . NO ONE will pay for software that they can get for free . . . so I see the future is open source. Linux I was disapointed with . . . I wanted to love it . . .but by fucking god I have time on my hands but the WAR I had to get basic things going like . . . play an mp3 etc was just fucking rediculous. Its a shame.
Windows is a failing companny im convinced . . . and Im also convinced if open source software keeps getting good enough there will be no point buying software that you can get for free . . . there for making software companys in trouble.
New-B – Stay to the code ! The day Ubuntu is fully functioning – is the day Microsoft and Apple inc wage war on the open source community. Killing the operating system. It’s a coder based community that is founded on freedom & intellectual gain. Something Americans have a hard time getting a grip on now day’s. I an a part of the Inner webs community and I have noticed that Ubuntu has evolved based on deception due to profiteering cutthroat gluttonous spying corporations. -JBS
i tried installing it on 3 machines, 2 had no problems but two had wireless problems and one i couldnt get dual monitors, i managed to get 2 of them in the end working perfect but it took weeks of dual booting and getting support to get there. Not worth the hassle really.
I should point out I use Windows (Vista, XP and 2k) and OSX on a daily basis, I’m not OS biased in the slightest, and if Ubuntu really wasn’t ‘finished’ like you say, I would say so.
I don’t write scripts or code to get anything working, I HATE command line, if I had to do that, I wouldn’t use it.
Ubuntu DOES pick up audio on those Dells, we use those at my works. As for it not picking up Creative cards? You may just want to try running ALSAmixer & unmuting it…
You say that the apps it comes with aren’t polished, Brasero for example, but your comparison holds no ground, seeing as you don’t get burning, office or DVD playback in Windows without extra effort.
Sorry, I got half way through this video and I had to make a comment. I’ve watched your other videos, and you seem like a pretty IT knowledgeable guy, kudos.
But I’m afraid I’ve got to air my opinion here. I’m not a Linux guru, but I’m writing this from an Ubuntu 8.10 machine, working 100% in every respect.
The sound was auto detected, the 8500GT was found on OS install, where I was prompted to download the genuine nVidia drivers.
If Ubuntu doesn’t work for you, I’m afraid there is a PEBKAC.
Ironically Ubuntu runs best on Mac’s since they’re directly supported. Works right out of the box (everything does).

Linux will always be the 2nd choice , after windows or osx, it couldnt be a first choice atleast until now….
