I found the same thing. For me, its just easier to replace files in /usr/share/images/xsplash than monkeying around with a shell script. I know using the script is faster, its just easier for me to conceptualize doing it graphically.
@frvfilms yeah, it was a lot easier to customize login with gdm, and the splash screen with usplash. I’m considering moving to a KDE based distro next time I upgrade

i found a script XSplash Background Settings that does this automatically

some one write a script for this
i wish the developers would put the gui to this as they used to have ,but i guess it was too much customisation
