    @theblue64 thanks for the comment. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion.

    I have many reasons for not wanting to use Ubuntu. One of them is that the only videos of Ubuntu you will find on the internet is videos made by amateur nerds on Youtube. Ubuntu’s website doesn’t have any professionally made videos like apple or windows does, and their “Tour” of Ubuntu is just pictures that make you yawn. That shows how much Ubuntu doesn’t care.

    Second, it’s fucking ugly. Ubuntu Beta brings on a new look.. scratch that, a new THEME. That’s it. Still plain boring panels.

    @jaapaurelio I’m actually using Kdenlive for all my video editing, and it’s the picture-in-picture compositing effect I’m using to put my camcorder’s video on top of the screencast.

  4. jaapaurelio says:

    hey, great video.

    i have one question, what soft you use to do the effect on 00:12 and how you put you webcam on right side? btw are you using linux to do this?

  5. thisweekinlinux says:

    @EdgyRootStudios I’m definitely going to give it a shotto see if it works for making videos. If not, I’ll just head back to Fedora again.

  6. EdgyRootStudios says:

    Hm, still undecided if I want to go with the Lynx. Lol @ the outtake

    @revsoldest1 Thanks for watching!

    @CHVNX really, the biggest thing other than waht I mentioned is probably the Ubuntu One Music Store, integrated into Rhythmbox. .

    if you google “ubuntu 10.04 beta technical overview” you should be able to see the full list of major changes on the Ubuntu site for the beta.

  9. CHVNX says:

    What are the other under-the-hood differences between Karmic and Lucid? If it’s just a change in software I can do without the upgrade for now. I’m not too worried about testing beta but I’d rather hear the benefits before making the change just yet.

  10. chillart22 says:

    @scouser73ubuntu
    I just removed it completely-I’ve read too many disasters with it

  11. revsoldest1 says:

    great video

  12. thisweekinlinux says:

    @TradieTrev definitely a great step when you think of how popular tablets have become and will continue to become. :)

  13. TradieTrev says:

    Good to see onboard in the menu. Previous versions it was installed by default, but not in the menu

    @maroon5rule I can’t even imagine that. I’ve only got a 4mbps connection, but no download limit. I know several companies here in the US are putting limits on connections now though. Hopefully mine doesn’t.

  15. thisweekinlinux says:

    @maroon5rule I’m still considering putting an Nvidia card in my new desktop. Nvidia isn’t giving any information for creating open source drivers, but the coders are doing an awesome job reverse engineering them.

  16. thisweekinlinux says:

    @sosroli according to the release notes, the proprietary ATI driver doesn’t work in the alphas or the beta yet. ATI is working on a new driver release to work with the newer versions of Xorg and Xserver.

    That said, the Mesa driver that comes with the beta works decently, and if you enable UMS (it defaults to KMS) the way Tru3m0sl3m mentioned earlier, it improves performance quite a bit.

  17. maroon5rule says:

    Btw, the download limit is indeed ridiculous and a lot of people have not even heard of a download limit but here in Belgium it’s a pretty normal thing, because it’s pretty impossible finding a good ISP without a download limit. Now I pay 60 euros a month for a 30mbps connection, with a download limit of 60gb, if you cross that, you can buy extra space for 0.50 euros/GB.
    After years though, my isp has finally decided to ban the download limits, this will take place in juli. Can’t wait really :)

  18. maroon5rule says:

    @thisweekinlinux Yeah finally decided that it’s best to wait before I download it, just having a few little issues in karmic (most are ATI driver related) that I hope will be fixed in Lucid, but since ATI hasn’t released any drivers for lucid yet I think it’s best that I wait a while.

    I thought about switching my ATI card for an nVidia one, but since nVidia decided not to give any information about their graphic cards, makes me believe open source ATI drivers will evolve faster in the future.

  19. sosroli says:

    i didnt understand the last thing, is there a problem with ATI driver? cause i’ve installed it, but a friend of mine sais that the auto installation for drivers isnt working ok. (until now it worked…)

  20. davexunit says:

    @abir12919 I believe those are on the beta. I like the slightly modified logo but themes are pretty terrible, imo.

  21. abir12919 says:

    @davexunit hey what about the “light” visual theme and the new logo ubuntu is talking about releasing on lucid lynx??? didnt see that on alpha 12 3…is it on the beta?

  22. thisweekinlinux says:

    @Tru3m0sl3m looking at the Ubuntu wiki, it appears that command should work.

  23. Tru3m0sl3m says:

    @thisweekinlinux so you reckon the above command will do the same thing right? and what exactly is KMS?

  24. thisweekinlinux says:

    @Tru3m0sl3m that sounds about right. I just tested by adding it to the kernel line in grub.

    I embedded the video I made on the main page of my website, thisweekinlinux . com

  25. Tru3m0sl3m says:

    @thisweekinlinux echo options radeon modeset=0 > /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf
