at the end KDE is well … what you stated. TBH

  2. thisweekinlinux says:

Thanks. At some point I really need to try out KDE 4.4… KDE 4 is not terrible (imho), I just don’t care for it.

  3. ThingsontheWeb says:

Nice response. I regret my response now, cause I installed Kubuntu, and KDE 4.4 is impressing me.

  4. sneekylinux says:

@thisweekinlinux you will see more of it in the coming months matey,as lubuntu is coming on to stream

  5. thisweekinlinux says:

thanks! I wish I had more experience with lxde, but I just haven’t had time to use it. It looks like a really interesting DE, with a lot of great tools though.

  6. sneekylinux says:

lol nice vid mate, but lxde for me,is my fave

  7. MasaruGamer says:

    The n900 is fierce.

  8. thisweekinlinux says:

heh. the intro was actually longer, but I cut out the part where I run around like a fool and flail.

  9. TheLinuxWizKid says:

story time story time lol nice great video

  10. thisweekinlinux says:

aww… now I have to go sit in my room and be emo. :P

  11. thisweekinlinux says:

    Thanks!

  12. cusinndzl says:

    Nice video.

  13. thisweekinlinux says:

Sadly, until I find a job doing Linux work exclusively, I have to at least have a Windows virtual machine. :(

  14. thisweekinlinux says:

At some point I need to go back and try out the new versions of OpenSUSE. I forgot to mention in my video that it was my first real favorite, I think. It had solitaire in the installer, so it kept me entertained.

  15. thisweekinlinux says:

    Thanks for the replies!

  16. thisweekinlinux says:

I forgot to mention in the video, to me, KDE 3 looked just like Windows Classic mode. I think that was intentional, just like KDE 4 looks a bit like Vista/Win7. Until the Gnome devs ruin Gnome, I’ll probably be sticking with it…

  17. thisweekinlinux says:

Yeah, at OLF last year I saw them demo Gnome Shell, and it looks neat, but the whole “we control how it looks and feels, because the user is too stupid to change it themself” thing bugs me. If I don’t want the time in the top center of the bar, I want to be able to move it…

  18. thisweekinlinux says:

I totally agree, but I’m stuck in a contract for quite a while now. Once I’m eligible for an upgrade again, I definitely plan to look into something different (hopefully the N900!)

  19. Radminster says:

And I’m optimist, i’ll never go beck to windows on my home pc, I can only white for next Ubuntu version ore try some other linux os, maybe Debian?

  20. Radminster says:

    NICE!
For me the very first Linux distro was Suse back in 2007, but only at the end of 2008 I said: “no more windows” and I reinstalled My PC and there was only Madriva on it also I tryed Ubuntu but at thet time it wos really ugly :D , after one year i installed Ubuntu and it was more easyer then Mandriva and also looks more OK”. And I’m using it still now, but like You said, there is so many bugs (video player crash, ext4 is so slow, and now even Cd-com is not working), but still I’m using it!

    my answers:

Q1: ’99 I was watching my dad try to get his mouse to work. (I was 9)

Q2-5: I hated my first 3 attempts with Red Hat in ’02, KNOPPIX in ’04 and Fedora Core 4 in ’05. 2005 was when I recognized that Linux would become usable in 3 years. Ubuntu 7.10 was the first distro I accepted and 8.04 was the first good one for the average user.

    Q6: Ubuntu, it’s simple
    Q7: N/A sorry no KDE
    Q8: GNOME, then Xfce
    Q9: depends on the distro
    Q10: N/A Linux isn’t an OS
    Q11: VLC
    Q12: marketing

    Thanks!

  22. rxuk says:

ha! re: KDE – thats *exactly* how i felt about it too! started with RH5.2 back in 98-99 myself, and KDE just rubbed me the wrong way. used gnome+fluxbox/enlightenment to get rid of the funky KDE/Windows feeling. tech survey q’s need some tweaking too ->knowmorecomp.

  23. johonunu says:

I like Gnome also, tried KDE 4.4 it very nice too, but I keep coming back to Gnome :) I don’t know if that will be the case next time, because I don’t like Gnome Shell for now :(

  24. sauron1grenoble says:

yeah i hate you now :)

  25. MasaruGamer says:

I agree on the KDE point. I like KDE and all but Gnome is just clean and straight froward.
