@GhoS64 I know that… i’m no stranger to dock software

  2. GhoS64 says:

@psychoclown420 : Ya its Dell’s Dock but its actually powered by Stardock’s ObjectDock software. FYI.

  3. thisweekinlinux says:

@psychoclown420 That’s definitely a very common way that people get it. I’d rather remain in the clear legally and use an OS that’s meant to be free. No judgements from me though.

  4. psychoclown420 says:

@thisweekinlinux My favorite way of going about windows is to torrent it from the pirate bay. It’s a good OS if it doesn’t have all that dell crap or office software installed, but i still wouldn’t pay for an OS. That’s why i still have my ubuntu partition on my laptop along with windows 7.

  5. thisweekinlinux says:

@psychoclown420 thanks for the comment. I nuked the Windows 7 install because I’m a Linux user in every way I can be, meaning I have no interest in running Windows. I have to have a copy of XP on a virtual machine for work, but other than that, it’s all Linux. :)
That said, I’ve got the copy of Windows 7 64-bit on DVD I’m thinking of getting rid of on eBay. hehe

  6. psychoclown420 says:

Wow, nice video, but why are you nuking the windows partition. I would keep a little of it left as it is an expensive OS. of course, the best way to go about windows 7 is a clean install, that way you don’t have any dell crap on there. That is the “delldock” by the way.

  7. thisweekinlinux says:

@thejlx yeah, I’m a little ashamed that dial-up is still available here. :(
What I was able to get for $500 is definitely pretty decent. The video card is really what’s holding it back. Eventually I’ll upgrade an throw a halfway decent Nvidia card in there, but I’m not spending hundreds on it because I’m not really a PC gamer anymore.

  8. thejlx says:

@thisweekinlinux yupp i fell on my azz last year when i hear you can actually get dial up in the US still.
i dont got any monster pc my self thou i feel i need to upgrade as i been thinking about video etc 4Gb athlon 3.46Ghz X2 64bit nvidia(of course) 250gts.
if i need moar powah i just tap in else where :)

  9. thisweekinlinux says:

@thejlx Ah, I’d imagine things are probably a lot different in Finland. Of course your internet connection speeds are probably quite a bit faster, but yes, I’m sure there’s much less competition as far as PCs go.
I actually used to run a business building/selling PCs, and I just couldn’t compete with Dell, HP, or Wal-Mart, so we spent most of our time just repairing cheap PCs people bought.
    Thanks for the comments!

  10. thejlx says:

but i like your channel even nothign new for me as i poke around everywhere and work on my pc lol :) even my ISP goes ape shit when i do a pentest lol.
even shut my net down twice for thinking i was botnet infected lol.
you bring a motivation for us *nix users to push on promoting our world of blizz :)

  11. thejlx says:

@thisweekinlinux Mkays time to look for stuff then as i realise you must ahve thousands of IT stores in the staes we got maybe 20 in total lol.
and building takes well 10 minutes lol.
But you made me understand that whit a messed up market like that (great for the business thou lol)but as a consumer dell uis the way to go. was looking at IBM earlier today just for fun on server racks the prices were SICK lol

  12. thisweekinlinux says:

@thejlx I researched for 2 months. The cheapest I could find comparable parts was about $750 with no OS. My budget was less than $600 (preferrably $500) due to my wife. So when I saw a quad core machine with 8gb of ram and a 1tb drive for $500, I jumped on it.
I’m fully capable of building machines, but between the budget and the lack of time (family, full-time job and video creation leaves little time for much else) prebuilt was my best option.
    Thanks for commenting!

  13. thejlx says:

What i dont understand is why would you buy a premade machine O_o
Buy the parts smack em togheter and you get your dream machine and alot cheaper.
and what ever OS you choose. i understand if someone who dont know how to use lego or install a os buys a premade.byt your no PC nublet for sure lol. please do give some answer to why i am honestly confused.

  14. russjr08 says:

The dock at the top is called The “Dell Dock” it comes with all Dell Computers now.

  15. Bl00dyJ0k3r says:

How do i put in my sd card? D:

  16. Amebixfan says:

@steigerjb ATI graphics are good, especially with the OSS drivers

  17. thisweekinlinux says:

@Thegamer5150 Glad to hear Win7 is working out for you. I prefer Linux on my systems. :)
Why do I need 8gb of ram? Virtual machines, video rendering, photo editing, music/audio editing, etc.
It came with 8gb, so I wasn’t going to complain.

  18. Thegamer5150 says:

    mines got
    630 GB Hard Drive
    AMD Phenom x4 (4 core 64 bit)
    4 GB of RAM
    ATI RadionHD 4350
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
came with Vista though Ran like fucking shit but 2 minutes after the maiden boot 7 BITCHES
needs a more powerful power supply since I plan on upgrading the GFX card soon and what are you doing with 8 GB of ram anyway I

  19. thisweekinlinux says:

@TheArnabDas I haven’t actually had the time to try an Ubuntu install on the new PC yet. Fedora’s running beautifully on it though.

  20. TheArnabDas says:

24GB of Microsoft crap? goodness! on a serious note, Dell REALLY needs to take care of this. i know its a 1TB hard drive but still, 24 gigs is just a LOT of wastage!

secondly, i hope people will now stop blaming just ubuntu for replicating the Mac. :P

how did the ubuntu installation go?

and finally, congrats on buying a refurbished system. if only people were half as aware about the environment as u.

  21. thisweekinlinux says:

@ThingsontheWeb He was definitely right on one point. It’s not technically an “unboxing”, so I updated the title to reflect it.

  22. thisweekinlinux says:

@ThingsontheWeb Yes, yes yes, I know. I should have built a PC myself. :P

Seriously, I was planning to, but every combo I found at newegg that was a good price sold out before I got a chance to snag it up, and without a combo the prices just aren’t that great.

  23. MrDanielHen says:

That dock thing at the top is a Dell thing.

  24. ThingsontheWeb says:

‘what a troll’ is correct. You like seeing cardboard being freed of it’s tape bondage?

    LOL

  25. ThingsontheWeb says:

It’s rocketdock (not a MS thing) … I noticed it the end of last year. We buy Dell computers for our customers to use with our equipment.

BTW … OEM computer? come on man … :O)
    custom PC FTW lol
