true.
i just mean the issue with touch screens been breakable easy needs to be fixed with all devices so that PADD type devices can go mainstream
Are you referring to the ipad?
yeah true but they need to fix that flow and use stronger glass
Cool Startrek PADD, we are SOOO living in the future now. Lol.
As far as a tablet (PADD ;-P), I prefer the clamshell design of a netbook simply because I wouldnt want a large 10 inch screen exposed to the elements and possible breakage. I know plenty of people who have cracked their iphone screens and replacing them can be expensive.
In my view the tablet design is flawed in that manner especially if they market it as a mobility device. The Lenovo Ideapad U1 hybrid I think might fix this..
I totally agree
like
I can make screencasts on my Laptop but not on my netbook
I wish my netbook was a PADD
I like the idea of using a PADD more than a netbook
I like the idea of having portable touch screen internet devices
Of course I will NOT ever buy the iPad and will wait for a Google Chrome/Andriod based PADD
I call it a PADD because that’s where the idea came from: Star Trek TNG/VOY/DS9
Although I know how you feel about Microsoft and Apple.. What do you think about the new ipad and other tablet devices like the new Lenovo U1 Hybrid?
I personally think… if the OS capabilities they are going to implement are going to be weak, then they are not worth it. Now those types of devices I do think they are somewhat of a fad… but who knows, time will tell how they will turn out to be.
It’s starting to look that way… but laptops still have mobility (for people who need that like myself) since owning a desktop is simply not an option for some may who move around a lot.
When it comes to power you can’t beat a desktop though. But when you need mobility and just the right amount of power of a desktop.. a laptop will have to do.
I personally consider a laptop a desktop “replacement” if you can’t own a desktop yet, whereas a netbook is strictly for mobility.
yeah true
i said to my Mum the other day that i don’t see why I would ever want to buy a Laptop again because they are just too big and Id rather use a PC when I want power and a netbook when im not in front of the PC
To be honest I don’t think Netbooks are a fad. They’ve been around for many years and have been the primary PC that many people from poorer countries have used because of their affordability as compared to the cost of a regular Notebook, which would be far too much.
You could say it WAS a trend in more developed countries where purchasing one was considered a novelty… However, NOW since they are becoming more powerful they have proven to be one of the most useful devices on the market.
cool good one mate
Netbooks sure are the in-thing fad at the moment
like the iPod was a few years ago
so these videos on Netbooks should help us get a lager audience
Sweet man! I’ll respond with a video of mine about KUKI Linux. That’s a distro made for the Acer Aspire One, but is reported to work on the eee as well.
you have gotta be kidding me… you left the boring install part, but edited the first boot?
i mean if it was long (which is what i suspect) then just be honest about it, and show it to the world as a why not to buy netbooks.
if it was slow because its the first boot and there were still things settling in like udev rules and what not, then just show us the second one…
i must say that i was disappointed by that… because THAT makes you look like a sellout.
Though netbooks have gotten a little bigger, I personally don’t think it’s a bad thing (yet). As far as price is concerned, the cheapest (brand new) netbooks I’ve seen in the U.S. go for about $0-250, but this price usually comes with a 3G wireless broadband contract. Regular retail, I’ve seen them go for about $250-500 (It all depends on how you want them configured). There is also the “used” option which I is the cheapest way to go. I’ve seen some “slightly used” go for 25-50% off retail.
I just wish the OEM’s would have stuck to the original guidelines for Netbooks…
They have all gotten too big and cost too much money
Ah okay, fair enough. Thanks to the reply anyway. Loving these shows. :]
cool
yeah I had to find a PPA to add the extra packages for the wireless drivers to work on this netbook
na it’s just like normal Ubuntu but it has the funky interface with big icons for netbooks and cheese
Iv spent a day installing extra stuff to it
Now THAT’S a positive way of looking at it Tim ! Haha … I guess your right
Wanna trade EEE PC’s then ? Haha … I really dig my EEE . Really works nice
) Thanx for accepting my video response btw !!!
Does Ubuntu Netbook Remix have the media codecs, software like flash, Java etc., or do you have to install that separately?
Great vid.
The wireless is a funny thing, but it happens. I say funny because when I installed Xubuntu 9.10 on my Apple iBook G4 recently, the “Hardware Drivers” program (to my surprise) detected my Airport card and suggested the software for it, which once I downloaded and rebooted, it worked as well as it ever did under OS X :p
haha I normally do, but I’m lazy and will soon
that’s why I make videos, for links to my site
well not for intel chipsets
this one I just had to add a PPA and install 2 packages in synaptic that i saw instructions on google and ubuntu forums for, then reboot and its working
cool
personally I wish my netbook had a small SSD rather than a big HDD
better for speed and battery
