Screencast style Review of Ylmf OS 3.0 32bit which is a Linux that looks like Windows XP theme which is based on Ubuntu Linux 10.04 Lucid Lynx. I am demonstrating the Open Source Operating System running inside Oracle VirtualBox Virtual Machine with Ubuntu 10.10 as the host. Ylmf OS is a new Ubuntu-based distribution from China with the GNOME desktop tweaked to resemble Microsoft Windows XP. Version 3.0 was released early this week based on Ubuntu 10.04, with the major components being Linux kernel 2.6.32-22.33, X.Org Server 1.7.6, GCC 4.4.3, and GNOME 2.30.0. It allows for a live CD mode, and one can log in with username “ylmfos” and an empty password. The live CD employs Squashfs LZMA, which combines one of the best compression algorithms, LZMA, and one of the best compressed file systems available nowadays, Squashfs, so as to include as much software as possible. Ylmf OS 3.0 also supports several approaches for installation. It includes a number of classical Linux applications for both newbies and veterans, and supports Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and English. This video will show you how to get any version of Linux on your desktop or laptop:Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Mythbuntu, Xubuntu, Ubuntu Netbook remix, Kubuntu Netbook. This is 100% free and legal. This works on any version of Windows: XP, Vista, or Windows 7. This WILL NOT remove or overwrite your current OS(Operating System). The program you’ll be using is called “Wubi” which can be downloaded at “Download.com”. It installs Linux so that when you boot up your computer it lets you choose between booting up into Windows or Linux. If you want to switch just restart your computer and choose the other one.

A short message and an invitation to all Linux users to introduce themselves and subscribe to my channel as I want to build a stronger base on that subject. I then re-uploaded my video where I completed installation of my first ever Linux Distro, Ubuntu 9.04. It was not on You Tube very long and saw it fit to show it again.

I created this video to give a few extra reasons why Linux doesn’t have viruses besides the common ones that get thrown around, like “linux is not popular enough” or “linux distributions each use a different kernel that is recompiled with every release”. These are valid reasons, but they are only the tip of the iceberg of arguments for Linux. Some think that if Linux was made popular it would increase the potential for malware to be written for Linux, and I point out in this video and the next one that this is a shallow argument because linux’s package distribution process is nothing like how packages are distributed on Windows. And it is the lack of a path of “accountability” in the package install process on Windows that windows has a greater potential for malware. So, you can’t have malware if there is higher accountability in the install process. So popularity and distro consistency doesn’t even enter the argument. Malware is eliminated because it can’t even get into the distribution. And malware authors would not even want to risk puting malware into the distribution because this means that they would have to be accountable, they who have to disclose their identity, email address and other such information. Also the fact that most linux software is in open source, makes it even harder to inject malware into the distribution because the malware author would have to release their source code to others to be perused. If anyone even catches that the program is malicious
