This video demonstrates the power of PXE booting, and automating Operating System installation with Red Hat Kickstart and similar technologies. The raw footage is 13 minutes. Which is actually quite fast, but is rather boring to watch. The video has been edited to demonstrate the little amount of interaction required to meet Oracle pre-requisites, when these pre-installation requirements have been automated. The stuff that has been edited for time, follows. 1) The long boot process: system scanning SCSI bus and RAID controllers; basic self tests on hardware. 2) Startup of the redhat installation: it takes a few minutes for all of the disk and hardware drivers to load. 3) Data partition formatting: the largest volume took well over a minute to complete formatting. The internet has assumed unfathomable popularity leading to advanced developments that has helped the dreams of visionaries to take concrete shape. The shaping up of websites from the plain simple ones to the modern one where use of high end applications is prevalent speaks volumes about this medium that has provided us with enormous opportunities. Who would have thought that internet would one day help us in bridging the gap and facilitate business potentials to unassuming proportions?

What is Linux?

Nowadays online business is conducted in a sophisticated manner with the help of technologies like ASP, PHP, JSP and others. These technologies need a platform called operating systems to help assimilate all the web based components for our utility. These operating systems are the mainframe for hosting of websites. The most commonly used operating systems are Linux and Microsoft Windows. These are the servers on which you host your website and conduct business effortlessly.

Reasons for Linux being the chosen one

The Linux server has been designed jointly by several IT companies like Suse, Mandrake and Red Hat especially for professional application of the community. Because of its backup unit Linux is a strong, reliable and inexpensive of all the platforms that are used.

Maintenance of quality and security

Linux has proved its mettle in the security and quality departments without causing a dent in the pocket. No wonder there is so much demand for Linux. As far as advanced technologies are concerned Linux is most compatible to help in the efficient functioning of ASP, PERL, PHP and MySQL. You can get a Linux server that provides you with the desktop applications and server applications like FTP, DNS Server, File Server, and Web Server known for their stability at no cost at all. Linux is known to provide an uptime of approximately 99.9 percent.

Protection against any undesirable attacks

Linux is known to withstand any virus attacks, spam and hacking and cause less damage. The infrastructure is something to contend with along with the software that makes up for the robust nature of the Linux server.

User Friendly

It is very easy to host your website on a Linux server. When you use a web based tool like Front Page ensure the presence of the relevant extensions such as .cgi, .php, .html, .xml, .htm, .shtml etc. This is necessary when uploading any HTTP features. Thus it is vital to choose the Front Page extensions while designing the site. Nowadays you can purchase the Front Page extensions that can be installed

Accessibility

A web site that is suitable for uploading on a Linux based server can be hosted on a Windows server also but the process is not reversible as in the case of Windows based server websites.

Web Hosting asked:

It is a matter of fact that there are several people who are anxious because they are unable to employ Linux hosting due to the reason that they run Windows on their PCs. It is a matter of fact that there is no relation between operating system on one’s PC to the web hosting environment employed by one, because the second one is drived remotely on a web server, the place where user’s website are uploaded.

In fact, Linux and Microsoft Windows are two dissimilarly directed operating systems. One cannot deny the fact that, Windows does not require the service of introduction and is familiar to everyone. However, Linux is a latest version of the UNIX operating system. Both are similar in providing top quality environments ideal for web hosting. Still, there is little dissimilarity between both.

To come to a conclusion which is the best, one should examine given below aspects:

Price:

If one talks about the Linux system then it is generally called an “open source” operating system. This means there is no presence of licensing fees to pay. Hence one can say that in comparison to Windows, Linux is quite economical. Microsoft after the success of Windows XP started promoting software activation which means a single copy of Windows can only be installed on one computer. However, with Linux, once the user buys a copy, it is his/her own wish that how much time he/she wants to install it on how many computers.

Dependability:

Linux operating servers are known for their stability and reliability and comparatively few cases of crash happens than a Windows server. Consequently, a Linux server provide additional ‘up time’ for a particular website.

Experience:

If one talks about the years of service then Linux is comparatively more familiar to hosting than Windows.

Pace:

One cannot find a big variation in speed between the two servers, but if one talk about the processing of basic web pages then Linux wins the race.

Functionality:

If one talks about functionality, then Windows sustain ASP (Active Server Pages), which is known to be a Microsoft programming/scripting language, which permits user to construct dynamically database-driven web pages after linking to a Microsoft database like for e.g. SQL Server or Access. However, Linux does not assists above mentioned things, rather apply MySQL database as a substitute.

If the user has decided to employ Microsoft FrontPage for the purpose of giving shape to his/her website, it does not compel him/her to opt Windows hosting. The entire Linux account come along with FrontPage extensions at zero cost, permitting the user to upload his/her FrontPage website to his/her web space on a Linux server.

Scripts:

There are plenty of CGI programs which one can easily find on the Internet. The bulk of space in it is occupied by the Perl scripts which are been developed on Linux / UNIX web servers. So these scripts are generally installed and operated on a Linux server at a smoother pace. Additionally, there are several Perl scripts available on the Internet which one can download without paying any cost.

In short one can say, or rather can reach to a conclusion that Linux hosting is easier to use, comparatively more reliable, delivers free, open source software and one can get it at a lower cost in comparison to Windows hosting. Hence, one can say that except user is bound to require windows specific features like for e.g. ASP and an Access database, one should prefer Linux over Windows as it provides better facilities at a cheaper rate.
