Playing around with Linux Mint 9 “Isadora”. I’m not that skilled in using Linux, like many other people I come from Windows, and this is my first try and the experience I have had until now is that Linux is just as useful as any other OS, with each ofcourse having their own downs and ups, so keep in mind that there is NO such thing as “The best OS”. Here I am just messing around with Compiz Fusion, Emerald and Cairo Dock, showing some of the nice eye candy that you can have if you use Linux… I used gtk-recordMyDesktop to capture the screen, somehow some of the compiz effects cause tearing in the screen, there are probably more people who are experiencing the same issue… I have tried several solutions on the internet, none of them did work, fortunately I have found the solution to fix the problem here… I can not guarantee it will work for you, it’s a case of trial and error… the solution for me was to uncheck “Allow flipping” at NVIDIA X Settings (OpenGL Settings Tab) According to several sites, the issue could be solved by checking Sync to VblanK… just try it, you never know if it solves the issue for you! Enjoy the effects and the fitting tune as well =] I do not own the copyrights for the audio used in this recording, nor did I create it, all credits go to the artist! If you like this, support this artists work and buy it

twitter.com – facebook.com – chris.pirillo.com – Over at Lockergnome.net, Luke asked where there are so many different Linux distros. Linux is awesome, there’s no doubt about it. The beauty of Linux is that it is open-source, and anyone can change it how they see fit. You can take Linux as an operating system, give it different themes and choices and generally make it to your liking. Some people want certain choices and features, while others want something entirely different. This is why you’ll find so many different flavors of Linux. http – lockergnome.net

twitter.com – facebook.com – It will be good to get an alternative processor platform to power all our laptops and desktops. But to run a full consumer friendly OS on an embedded processor platform has been a challenge so far, as the ARM processors were originally intended just to power phones and other dedicated devices. Designing a simple user interface for the Linux based OS that can be embraced by the mass market instead of Microsoft Windows is also a large challenge. Jerone Young is one of the main engineers at Canonical working for the past many months in trying to get Ubuntu to work 100% smoothly on the upcoming fastest ARM Processors that will come in the thin, light and possibly very cheap ARM Powered laptops and desktops that will normally reach the mass market in the months to come. This video was filmed by Charbax of ARMdevices.net at the Freescale Technology Forum in Orlando Florida.

As far as Linux distros go, it’s likely the easiest to use. Any time I say something about one distro instead of another, a war tends to break out. They can all agree, though, that Ubuntu is about as close as Linux has come to being mainstream thus far. chris.pirillo.com
